Let’s Groove returns for a special edition featuring Berlin’s Soundstream, who for over two decades has created some of house music’s most unmistakable dance floor records. Joining him behind the decks are Jonas Melles and MON.DEE. Four hours, three selectors, one dance floor. ✩ 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐌 (𝐃𝐄) ✩ Native Berliner Frank Timm, better known as Soundstream, grew up on records by George Benson and Chic from his American stepfather’s collection. He first heard Technotronic’s “Pump Up the Jam” on the radio in 1989, just as the Berlin Wall was coming down and house music was reaching the city in full force. In the 90s, he became immersed in Berlin’s electronic music scene through the influential Hard Wax record shop and Tresor club. There, he discovered his love of the chopped-and-screwed energy of Chicago house and the groove of New York, influences that would shape his production style of tightly chopping and sampling disco and funk over pummeling kicks. From early Soundhack releases and 1999’s “Good Soul” to dance floor favourites such as “Live Goes On,” “Bass Affairs” and “Love Remedy,” as well as his recent triple album Disco Fantasy, his records have become staples for disco heads as well as house DJs and producers. After developing his craft as a DJ at the original Tresor and Ostgut, Soundstream has played Berghain / Panorama Bar around 200 times since the club opened in 2004.
