Sandra Boss - Öresound musikfestival

Sandra Boss is a Danish composer and performer working within in the field of instrumental music, electronics, installation and performance. Her works range from chamber music, solo pieces, performances and installations. Her compositional voice is distinctly explorative with a strong interest in the hidden sonic potentials of instruments and technologies. The organ has found a special place in her practice, an instrument through which she has explored the flow of air and the opaque and idiosyncratic aspects of its mechanisms. LUFT is a piece composed for a home-built MIDI-controlled pipe organ. The organ consists of a careful selection of old village-church organ pipes that are repurposed in order to explore the atonal interactions they offer in a deconstructed state. The sonic possibilities of the organ are explored in a way where rhythmic patterns appear as structural and timbral effects. Suppression, exhaustment, excitation and release all coexist in this piece. Sandra Boss has studied composition and electronic music at The Royal Academy of Music in Denmark and she also holds a PhD in sound art. Her works have been performed all over the world at venues and festivals such as Vancouver New Music Festival (CA), Super Deluxe (JP), Cafe Oto (UK), KRAAK Festival (Be), Archipel (CH), Aggregate Festival (DE) and Detritus Festival (GR).
